Pen wiper; 5-leaved oval textile item, for wiping dip pen nibs; the front has purple felt, with 'PRESENT FROM PETERBOROUGH' within a wreath, and some decorative beading, with tiny clear & white beads; the other leaves are black; Horton collection. Used for cleaning ink from dip & fountain pen nibs, during & after use. A standard stationery item during the 19th century.
