Description
Pen wiper; red and black leaved textile item, for wiping dip pen nibs; the leaves form the skirt for a small wooden doll with simple painted features; the 'dress' is sewn with tiny white and clear glass beads. Horton collection.
Used for cleaning ink from dip and fountain pen nibs, during and after use. A standard stationery item during the 19th century. Apparently the first item acquired for the Horton Collection!
