Description
Ink pen sketch, mildly satirical, with Shakespeare quote; shows a wailing child sitting in a hot bath tub, next a steaming kettle; watching him is a man in a long coat with his hands behind his back; underneath is a quote from Othello, Act 5, scene 2; the sketch is one of three by an unknown hand; was collected pre-1979 (stamped with 'Eastgate House Museum'), so presumably was considered of historic interest, though the provenance is currently unknown; thin woven paper, no watermark; looks like something from the Fitzgerald Collection, but does not seem to appear on any listing.
Production period
mid-late 19th century?
