Description
Oil lamp for railway signalling; tinplate body, chimney, filter holder & fount; polished tinplate or steel(?) reflector; ¼" flat wick ceramic & brass plug fitting burner; thick glass lens (cracked), with a blue filter and provision for two others; (the blue filter was used because the yellow light of the oil lamp would show through the blue filter, resulting in a green light being shown); rigid carrying handle fitted to chimney and mounting hook/bracket at the rear of the body; markings show the lamp was used by Southern Railways; lamp has been repainted; Norris collection.
