Description
Burgonet helmet; steel helmet with pronounced comb; helmet made in two halves with added neck guard and pointed brim (incomplete); 2 hinged ear flaps (1 broken, 1 missing); no liner traces; loan, later a gift from Edwin Harris, originally listed as 'tilting helm', i.e. for jousting, but this is clearly a functional combat helmet; two large cheekpieces would have hung from the helmet that could be closed to protect most of the face; popular with cavalrymen, but also used by the infantry.
