Description
Large colourised print of a marine engagement between HMS Spartan & the French warship 'Le Sparviere' on 3rd May 1810; it has been mounted on canvas & wooden stretchers for fixing into a picture frame; the text has been cropped & stuck to the reverse (incompete); it is VERY poor condition, having been on display unglazed in a Victorian home for a century - overall brown staining & soiling, & tears. HMS Spartan was built at the shipyard of Charles Ross, an ancestor of the bequeather; formerly used in Acorn house, home of T H Foord. Identical to A10696.
