Description
Original 1870 printed instalment of 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood', cost, eighteen pence; this is the sixth part of six produced (12 were planned but Dickens died in June 1870 before the work was finished); the blue cover encloses the 32 page instalment of the story; because it is the (more expensive) closing instalment of this unfinished story, it contains as well as the two exclusive illustrations, and extra image of Dickens, a title page & chapter listing, together with a generous selection of advertisments (more than the modern facsimile has); this enabled the reader to have the instalments bound together into novel form if they wished; a small selection of pages have been scanned for this record; in fairly poor condition, the paper is very fragile and the simple sewn cotton binding has failed; each instament in this set has its own melanex wallet that helps prevent further physical damage; the set of six are enclosed in the original blue hard bound box.
