Oil painting; 'My Pet' (also known as 'The Dove'); by Charles Spencelayh (1865-1958); the artist's first wife (Elizabeth Hodson Stowe) was the model for this painting; dove perched on her right forefinger. Painted circa 1886-87 (exhibited as no.280 at the Royal Insititute of Painters), shortly before Spencelayh's marriage in 1890. Another visual pun by Spencelayh - who is the pet? The woman (his future wife) or the dove perched on her finger?
