Hat; shako of the Royal Dockyard Battalion, formed to guard the Royal Dockyards 1847-57; black felt almost cylindrical hat, flat top; leather brim; copper alloy shako plate, chinstrap scales and pom-pom mount; some moth damage. This is the actual Board of Ordnance sealed pattern for the type. Illustrated in the 'Rochester Museum Centenary Booklet'.
