- DescriptionBrass (copper alloy) seal matrix of the City of Rochester; circular seal & counterseal, linked by 4 rods; one side has castle, gatehouse, bridge & ditch 'SIGILLVM CIVIVM ROFENSIS'; other side the martyrdom of St Andrew 'SIGILLVM COMMVNE CIVITAS ROFENSIS'. Cracked on reverse. Withdrawn from use circa 1885. May have been cut circa 1337. Some consider it earlier 13th century, stylistically.
