Description
Wooden truncheon or 'life preserver' or 'blackjack'; 2-part truncheon; lower section has carved corrugated grip; upper section has bulbous head carved with concentric rings; joint has copper alloy caps, and is linked with modern thread. There is a flail-like, whiplash action to this truncheon; apparently carried by civilians for self defense. Length quoted above is with the 2 sections butted together. Referred to by Edwin Harris in his notes of 1928.
