Description
Watercolour painting entitled 'View of Gillingham and Prison Ships in the River Medway'; painted by Francis St Jean, a French prisoner on the hulk prison ship 'Canada', dated 12th May 1811; river view with various named prison ships. Illustrated in the 'Rochester Museum Centenary Booklet'. Ships named are: Nassau, Canada, Irresistible, Trusty, Feyen(?), Glory, Bahama, Crown Prince, Buckingham, Samson, Thunderer, Terrible, Leopard, Ariadne.
