Watercolour painting entitled 'A Night View of the Prison Ships Lying in Gillingham near Chatham, With a View of Prisoners Endeavoring to Escape From the Sampson'; painted by Francis St Jean, a French prisoner on the hulk prison ship 'Canada'. Almost monochrome image, pencil sketch? overpainted; shows 12 vessels with lights, but not clear which is the 'Sampson', and no visible escaping prisoners; no signature apparent (though good writing style match to A3327); in glazed frame.
