Description
Large hall or dining table; top composed of 5 large planks (1 a later replacement); carved floral decoration around tabletop base; 4 columnar legs, braced; pegged with wooden dowels; worn brass plaque on top; from Eastgate House. Located on first floor above the shop/ reception area of Eastgate House. Payne inventory notes it was 'given by the ladies who were educated at Eastgate House', some time pre-1906. See attached images for a list that Payne compiled of the former pupils who contributed to the purchase of the table. Although the table was given by the former pupils, it is clearly much older than 19th century, probably dating back to the 17th century, with various later repairs apparent.
