Sarah's biography: Sarah Ringe was born Sarah Nash on the 17 December 1839. Her father Edward, who was a Wheelwright (image 2), and mother Mary Ann had married the year before and were living in Higham. Sarah was baptised in 1840 at the Bethel Methodist Chapel in Rochester (3).
The family steadily grew over the next few years, and by 1851 (4) she had three sisters and a brother, and they were now living in Rochester.
Sarah was married in 1863 (5) to George Ringe, who was a postman. George Junior was born the next year and by 1871 (6), the family, now with four sons, were living at Gravel Walk in Rochester. Walter, son number five, arrived in 1874, and Sarah's first daughter Maud, was born in 1877 (7).
George, by 1891 (8) was no longer with the Post Office and was employed at the Dockyard as a Storehouse Man.
George died in 1894, and Sarah moved to Gillingham living with her son Frank at Arden Street (9).
By 1911 Sarah and her son Frank had moved to Whitehouse Lane in Chatham (10), and with Frank having lost his job in the Dockyard and being unemployed, circumstances dictated that they had to take in a lodger (Charles Straffon, a Dockyard worker).
Sarah Palmer Ringe died in 1921 aged 81 and is buried in St Margaret’s Churchyard, Rochester. She is commemorated by this funeral card.
