Stoneware jug; 'Bellarmine' or Frechen item; bulbous vessel set on pedestal base; applied loop handle; applied 'mask' of bearded face on neck; body has applied 8-pointed star medallion. Evidence of repair and filling on on object. Probably made in the Netherlands, this vessel incorporates a satirical image of Cardinal Robert Bellarmine (1542-1621). He was an opponent of the Dutch Reformed Church.
