Pencil sketch by Charles Spencelayh, preliminary for oil painting 'Someone coming to tea' (referred to in the paperwork as 'Mr Drage trimming an oil lamp'); full-size, shows old man looking out of his window, the clocks nearly at 4 o'clock & the table in the foreground has a tea service laid out for two; the usual paraphernalia around the room (fox's head, stuffed bird of prey - some differences in the final oil painting). The main figure is fully sketched and shaded, props & scenery in outline only; framed and glazed.
