Pencil drawing by Charles Spencelayh, preliminary for oil painting, 'Paint Patience & Perseverance'; full-size, shows old man (Charles Spencelayh) holding a figurine in an overcrowded artist's studio. Main figure & scenery is fully sketched and shaded, quite dark; framed and glazed; presumably autobiographical and probably inspired by a photo of himself - see Aubrey Noakes book, p.81. Acquired with part funding from the V & A purchase grant fund.
