Description
Watercolour painting; view through Chertsey's Gate (before the 1896 road widening); looking south with the castle keep beyond; several figures & cart; coarse brushwork giving a pastel effect; unframed. Paul Braddon was the pseudonym of James Leslie Crees. He made pencil sketches of buildings and scenes, from which he painted watercolours. At least one other set of slightly different watercolours were taken from the same sketches (now in NZ).
