Description
Watercolour sketch; curtain walls of Rochester castle, with part of a polygonal tower & a ruined tile roof to the left; pre-1904 cathedral tower beyond; apparently 'remains of castle wall by Liberal Club now gone'; by Stephen Aveling; unframed. Donated some time before 1905? Stephen Aveling was a family member of the company who specialised in the manufacture of road rollers. He wrote articles for Archaeologia Cantiana in the 1880's.
