Description
Carved wooden sign in the form of a bishop's mitre. From the Mitre Hotel and Tavern, Chatham. Composed of four hand-carved sections joined by staples, painted gold. Approximately life-size. Some minor damage; this popular Chatham inn saw many incidents during its long history, including possibly the first recorded public 'performances' of Charles Dickens as a child, being asked to stand on a table and sing popular ballads of the day!
