Description
Silver medal presented to Charles Morris Hill of Strood for saving the life of Richard Newington in the River Medway on June 12th 1903; hallmarked 1897 Birmingham sterling silver; Maltese cross with 'CH' monogram in the middle. See A5878/3 which is a newspaper cutting recording the rescue & the presentation of the medal to Charles Hill. Several members of the Hill family were free fishermen and dredgermen, Chamberlains of the Rochester Oyster Fishery.
