Description
Watercolour painting; view of Chertsey's Gate ('Jasper's Gate') looking north (after the 1896 road widening); a man with a basket approaches; well-executed amateur painting; unframed. Limitations shown by fairly poor depiction of human figures & exaggerated cathedral spire. Artist may be a relation of John or Henry Hopper, whose artwork occurs elsewhere in the collections. This painting seems to be an almost direct copy (including figures) of a watercolour by the artist E W Haslehust.
