Photograph of Charles Dickens; albumen print, 'carte de visite' card; picture taken circa 1867; published by J Gurney & son (other examples also published by G Rockwood); Dickens seated at writing desk. Acquired and displayed at the museum in the early 20th century. These cards were very popular in the 1860's, & could be traded among friends & visitors, and collected & displayed in albums - the craze was known as 'Cardomania'.
