cuirass
  • Object number
    A13612/2
  • Description
Backplate (cuirass); cavalryman's armour; hinges for shoulder straps (missing); steel, with brass fittings; when given to the museum it was described as 'Cuirass, Waterloo, French'; given at the same time as breastplate A13612/1, but not necessarily a matched panoply; faint traces of a 'gold' colouring suggests that this may be a backplate worn by a carabinier cavalryman, rather than a cuirassier (which the breastplate A13612/1 seems to be for).
