This collection of maps, plans and drawings originates from the various pre-1974 local government authorities based in the Medway Towns. Consequent to local government re-organisation the records of the authorities were subject to dispersal and became confused. This collection therefore represents an arbitrary arrangement of records whose exact provenance cannot be stated with certainty. It also comprises working papers produced by the authorities themselves in furtherance of their own projects or as statutory or contractual duties. Written mention of these various projects may therefore be found in the appropriate council and committee minute books and files.
