- Administrative history / biographyOriginally known as Temple Senior Boys' Council School, the school opened on 6 January 1936, with an official ceremony attended by Earl de la Warre (Education Secretary) in May. The first Head Teacher was Mr Featherstone, in charge of a teaching staff of 13. During the Second World War, when many children were evacuated to other parts of the country, those pupils that remained shared the building with junior and infant school pupils, as well as girl pupils (transferred to Chapter School in 1946). The original site of the school was on the Temple Farm Estate but in 1961 the school moved to a new building on New Brompton Road. Temple School closed in 2009 and combined with Chapter School to become Strood Academy. During its 73 year existence the school had only 6 Head Teachers. Of these, Mr J.O. Hancock (1947-1969) and Mr J.E. Williams (1969-1987) served the school for the longest periods.
